Wilmington, NC, United States, 2019/01/22 - GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH) announced that it has completed the segmentation of reactor internals at Oskarshamn Nuclear Power Plant (OKG) Unit 2 in Oskarshamn Municipality in Sweden - okg.se / Nuclear.GEPower.com. NYSE: GE
Employing cutting edge technology, GEH dismantled, segmented and packed reactor internals of OKG Unit 2, a boiling water reactor that began operating in 1974 and closed in 2015. All handling and segmentation of reactor internals was carried out underwater. Segmentation was mainly conducted using the Primary Segmentation System that was designed by REI Nuclear. GEH acquired the business and certain assets of REI Nuclear in December 2018.
“This is a historical milestone for the decommissioning of OKG units 1 and 2,” said Johan Dasht, CEO and Managing Director of OKG AB. “Removal and disposal of reactor internals takes place directly after defueling of the units in order to simplify further decommissioning and improve the environment in the plant.”
