The Greenville Area Development Corporation (GADC), charged with promoting and enhancing quality of life in Greenville County, South Carolina by facilitating job growth and investment, has named Marshall Franklin as Chairman of its Board of Directors for 2018-19. Joining him as officers are Tom Epting as Vice Chair, Beverly Haines as Secretary, and Scott Case as Treasurer.

Simultaneously, the GADC has announced that prominent business leaders Roy Chamlee, Beverly Haines and Je’Varus Howard have been appointed by Greenville County Council to three-year terms on the GADC Board. All terms began June 1, 2018.

(Butch) Kirven, Greenville County Council Chairman. “GADC is focused on expanding existing industries as well as bringing new companies to Greenville. We are keen to increase per capita income, capital investments and economic opportunities across the full spectrum of our population in Greenville County.”

Mr. Franklin is the Executive Vice President for Operations and Chief Operations Officer for Bob Jones University, the Greenville-based, regionally accredited Christian liberal arts university with more than 2,500 students and 40,000 alumni. He joined BJU following a distinguished 24-year career with international accounting and consulting firm Ernst & Young, where he served both domestic and international clients from offices in France, England, and the Southeastern United States. Mr. Franklin holds a B.S. in Professional Accounting from Bob Jones University, and is widely recognized as a strong consensus builder who is keenly aware of international business issues and opportunities, having conducted business in 37 countries. He is a member of the Board of Directors of BJU Education Group, Carolina Alliance Bank of Spartanburg and of The Wilds, a Christian camp located in Brevard, N.C.

Mr. Epting is a Partner and Practice Area Leader of Smith Moore Leatherwood's Business Group, focusing his legal practice on corporate and business transactions involving intellectual property and technology transfers. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Judge Advocate General's Corps of the United States Air Force Reserves and served as Vice-Chairman of the Greenville County Research & Technological Development Corporation. Also, he is a former Patent Examiner with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Epting holds his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson University, and his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law.

Mr. Case is a Certified Public Accountant with more than 30 years of professional experience in the areas of tax and finance, having worked at an international accounting firm, as Tax Director for a major corporation, at a major national law firm, as CFO for multiple companies and in a variety of finance and tax roles as a consultant. Mr. Case previously served on Greenville County Council where he authored Greenville’s first Biennium budget and led the County to a Triple A credit rating. Currently, Mr. Case serves as the elected Auditor of Greenville County and is a member of the South Carolina Association of CPA's, the American Institute of CPA's, and the Government Finance Officers Association. He holds a B.S. in accounting from Bob Jones University and a Masters in Accountancy from Clemson University.

Ms. Haines is a healthcare consultant, prior GADC Board member, and the former President and Chief Nursing Officer of the Patewood Hospital and Medical Campus of the Greenville Health System. A Registered Nurse, she previously served as Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Health System in Pittsburgh, PA. Ms. Haines holds a Master’s Degree in Nursing Education with emphasis in Nursing Administration from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Duquesne University. Long active in civic and industry circles, she has actively served in leadership roles with such organizations as the Peace Center, Greenville Women Giving and the Greenville Chorale. She is a graduate of The Riley Institute at Furman University’s Diversity Leaders Initiative.

Mr. Chamlee is retired after over 30 years of service to Michelin North America, most recently as Michelin's Director of State & Local Government Affairs. His extensive community experience includes service on boards including both the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce and Greenville Chamber of Commerce, the South Carolina Civil Justice Coalition, and Rolling Green Village. Mr. Chamlee holds a B.A. from Belmont University, an M.A. from Middle Tennessee State University, and a J.D. from the Cecil Humphreys School of Law at the University of Memphis.

Mr. Howard serves as Director of Operations for PMI Upstate SC, a full-service real estate asset management company that provides professional property management services across the Upstate region. A graduate of Ashworth College, Mr. Howard previously served as a Unit Administrator and human resources leader for the Department of Defense. He has also served as an Active member of the U.S. Armed Forces and now serves as a Reservist. He has been active in numerous civic initiatives including veteran support groups, community development programs, and youth mentoring/development efforts.
