NAKIVO Inc., a fast-growing software company for protecting virtualized and cloud environments, announced today that ScienceLogic has selected NAKIVO Backup & Replication to protect their VMware environment.
ScienceLogic provides modern IT operations with actionable insights to resolve and predict problems quickly in a digital, ephemeral world. Trusted by thousands of organizations, ScienceLogic’s technology was designed for the rigorous security requirements of United States Department of Defense, proven for scale by the world’s largest service providers, and optimized for the needs of large enterprises.
With four sites, ScienceLogic’s virtual infrastructure includes nearly 100 VMware ESXi hosts and 1,000 VMware VMs that run Windows servers, Linux servers, Microsoft Exchange, as well as other databases and applications. ScienceLogic needs to ensure that all of their IT systems are securely protected, thus ScienceLogic aims to back up and recover their VMware VMs efficiently and reliably. Ultimately, because the number of ScienceLogic’s customers is always growing, the company requires a proper VM backup solution that must be able to help them achieve data availability and meet customers’ SLAs.
ScienceLogic relied on a different VM backup solution in the past. “The previous backup tool was just terrible. While I did not have to deal with that product directly, my co-workers feedback was that they experienced several problems. Mostly, the problem was a combination of failed backup/recovery jobs, slow VM backup time, and even a few serious crashes. A few of my co-workers had to constantly contact support and be on the phone for like eight straight hours, and then had to sort everything out again for another several hours. Therefore, we did not want to invest any more effort in that product and just needed a more efficient backup system. Especially since we had a Synology NAS server, we wanted to take advantage of the already available hardware. NAKIVO Backup & Replication was our choice because the software just works out-of-the-box,” says Scott Hudson, System Administrator at ScienceLogic.
ScienceLogic evaluated several VM backup solutions, but after six months of testing, decided to choose NAKIVO Backup & Replication based on its performance, ease of use, and cost. ScienceLogic has to ensure that their data is always protected; NAKIVO Backup & Replication helps the company by guaranteeing successful completions of VM backup and recovery jobs. In addition, another of NAKIVO Backup & Replication’s advantages is the product’s integration with Synology NAS servers. “We immediately installed NAKIVO Backup & Replication on a Synology NAS server and everything just worked out-of-the-box from the beginning, from the first configuration steps to scheduling our first backup job. We have always been a Synology shop from the beginning and because we already owned the hardware, this was a perfect opportunity for us to use NAKIVO Backup & Replication with a Synology NAS server,” says Scott.
By switching to NAKIVO Backup & Replication, ScienceLogic improved their VM backup performance and eliminated the occurrence of failed backup jobs. With NAKIVO Backup & Replication, the IT team no longer have to waste hours on support meetings and fixing failed backup or recovery jobs. “Depending on particular VMs, we schedule backup jobs once week to three times a week, depending on how often data changes. In comparison to our past product, we not only increased VM backup speed, but also improved the success rate of backup jobs dramatically with NAKIVO Backup & Replication,” explains Scott.
With instant file recovery, the IT team can recover files and folders near-instantly from image-based VM backups, without recovering the entire VM first. “We used instant file recovery for testing, as well as for real production situations. We had a few cases when someone accidentally botched the environment or deleted some particular files, thus we had to recover immediately. The whole process was quick and painless,” says Scott.
NAKIVO Backup & Replication installed on Synology NAS provides ScienceLogic with ease of use, increased VM backup performance, and time-savings on backup administration. With NAKIVO Backup & Replication, ScienceLogic can back up VMware VMs faster and maintain backup and recovery success rates of 99%. With instant file recovery, ScienceLogic can recover individual files near-instantly. Lastly, NAKIVO Backup & Replication saves time for the IT team on backup administration, as there is no need to have constant support meetings anymore. “NAKIVO Backup & Replication works out-of-the-box and the software is truly user-friendly. Our previous backup tool was difficult to use and manage, that is why we experienced so many problems. NAKIVO Backup & Replication is reliable and helps us protect our internal and customer data. Plus, we no longer need to spend hours on support meetings and that is great,” reports Scott.
