CV Microelectronic of China (cvchip.com), a provider of Secure Elements, and Fingerprints are pleased to be cooperating to bring the first biometric contactless smartcard reference for the domestic Chinese market. The reference card, called SecTouch, is contactless and has no battery. It uses a sensor from the ultra-thin FPC1300-series, which has ultra-low power consumption with superior biometric performance, a key requirement for handling contactless transactions.
The market for payment cards is growing in China as consumers want flexibility and options in their financial lives, and a complement to mobile payments. Many of these cards are contactless, however, our market research* shows that Chinese consumers don’t use contactless as much as they would like to, with 42% stating security as the main barrier. Just as fingerprint biometrics is a common way to authenticate mobile payments, it offers the same convenience and increased security when integrated in a payment card. Having a fingerprint sensor on a payment card to replace the PIN code is seen as the next logical step beyond mobile, and 67% of consumers in our China research find a biometric card appealing.
