International technology Group ANDRITZ presents its innovative IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) solutions, which have been tried and tested in many reference plants around the world, at the international Hannover Fair (hannovermesse.de) (April 23 to 27, 2018, Hall 12, Stand C 57).
The digital ANDRITZ technologies offered under the Metris umbrella brand feature the latest state of the art in the area of IIoT/Industry 4.0 and provide crucial support for customers in achieving their production and business targets: increasing efficiency and profitability of plants, optimizing the use of resources, preventing production downtimes and obtaining maximum product quality. The innovative digitalization solutions provided by ANDRITZ are highly user-friendly, e.g. through their ease of control via smart phone or tablet.
Metris is based on three pillars of technology: Smart Sensors, Big Data, and Augmented Reality. In addition to conventional Smart Sensor technologies, which are used for the evaluation of measured values and signals, ANDRITZ offers micro-sensor and wireless sensor systems. This enables optimization of plant operation by analyzing specific machine and plant parameters that the customer can select freely.
In the Big Data area, Metris products calculate possible production variances in advance, based on proven simulation processes, to derive any required control steps. This helps to prevent production downtimes and to reduce the amount of consumables used.
Augmented Reality applications display information where it is needed - on site, at the plant itself. They are built around a context-oriented display of information, which provides optimum support for the operators, particularly when complex control steps need to be taken.
Metris OPP: A successful IIoT solution that has been used for many years now
OPP (Optimization of Process Performance) is an optimization system for machine and plant operation that has been in use for many years, but has been advanced and improved continually based on customer experience. OPP has mainly been applied in pulp and paper production, where it analyzes production data to detect irregularities and variances early on. Sheet breaks and other production malfunctions can thus be predicted before they actually occur. Countermeasures can be taken in good time and production reliability can be safeguarded, while at the same time, plant operation (including the input of resources) can be optimized. Big companies such as Klabin, Smurfit Kappa or Fibria have relied on the success of the OPP system for many years. ANDRITZ has now developed OPP for use in other business areas and has started to offer it for the different industries, e.g. hydropower stations or steel mills.
