About Pennsylvania National Human Trafficking Awareness Month
Senator Bartolotta appeared before the Senate on Tuesday, January 31, 2018 to report that 117 cases of Human Trafficking were reported in Pennsylvania in 2017. Senator Bartolotta presented a resolution to make January National Human Trafficking Awareness month in Pennsylvania. She thanked her colleagues for their work in helping pass stricter laws and for their work to draw awareness to this problem and to help stop human trafficking.
About Relentless
Holly Drew (Lauren Shaw) owns “Drew’s Brews,” a coffee roaster on the Oregon coast. Since childhood, she has traveled with her father to the farm of their Salvadorian coffee suppliers they’re like family. Holly’s daughter Ally (16) takes a pre-college course, spending the summer on the farm studying ways they can become more financially and environmentally efficient.
One night, Ally is violently kidnapped from the farm. Holly immediately travels to San Salvador and with the help of an “unconventional” local, Fern (David Castro), she unearths a dark human trafficking ring, linking Central American victims to a U.S. market. Dawn Adams of Abolish Slavery Coalition was present at the event to speak about human trafficking and to answer questions as well as give the statistics on human trafficking both state-wide and nationally. Abolish Slavery is a human rights agency that engages in the 3 Ps: Prevention, Protection, and Prosecution. They have formed multiple task forces to prevent human trafficking, to protect victims of human trafficking, and prosecute the criminals, so these survivors can safely transition out of slavery and live a free life. Over 95% of the funds raised are used to help and rescue survivors as most of the organization's employees are volunteers.
