More design freedom, enhanced functionality and simplified integration: MultiLight is SCHOTT’s latest contribution to automotive interior lighting. MultiLight offers a combination of side-emitting and end-emitting light guides with a number of functionalities, such as contour and spotlight illumination, bundled into a single product. These space-saving, flexible fiber optic cables can be efficiently embedded in individual automobile designs for interior lighting.
A product for designers
Sophisticated and cleverly designed lighting solutions help to enhance the aesthetic quality of automotive interiors and set the mood for a superior driving experience. This aspect of car design however, is often overlooked.
Having achieved a minimum diameter of 1.2 mm, SCHOTT’s optical glass fibers offer a significantly higher flexibility than that of the commercially standard polymer fibers. The high pliability allows manufacturers and designers to weave MultiLight through tight spaces. In particular, door handles, gloveboxes, center consoles, and speakers can now be illuminated along their contours.
All of the light guides flow together from an RGB light source. MulitLight cuts the time and effort needed for integration, while trimming the purchasing costs the light guides simply need fewer electrical components. The resulting shrinkage in the cable system simplifies the long-term installation and maintenance. MultiLight can also be fit flexibly into customer-specific light sources.
