The first EPC contract, prepared by Lahmeyer during the project “Procurement Agent” for the Indonesian state owned utility PT PLN (PERSERO) (pln.co.id), was signed in the end of 2016 by Mr. Sofyan Basir - President & CEO of PLN and the Consortium PT PP - Wärtsilä Finland Oy - PT Wärtsilä Indonesia.
In the beginning of 2016 Lahmeyer International (lahmeyer.de) was instructed by PT PLN (PERSERO) to award EPC contracts for purchasing 15 small and medium sized power plants for Sumatra, Sulawesi, Kalimantan, Papua and other Indonesian islands. The contract was extended in September 2016 by an additional 12 power plants.
The project is part of a program launched by the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo in May 2015 to provide an additional 35 GW of power capacity by 2019. The aim is to handle electricity shortages which affect a large portion of the population.
The consortium consisting of Wärtsilä and the Indonesian construction company PT PP (Persero) Tbk was awarded as winner of the bidding process conducted by Lahmeyer to supply PT PLN with a 135 MW combined cycle power plant (GuD power plant). The consortium will deliver a full EPC project (Engineering, Procurement & Construction). In addition to the EPC contract, the consortium will also operate and maintain the power plant for a 5-year period.
The power plant project includes 13 gas engines combined with one HRSG and one steam turbine that can operate in dual fuel mode with liquid fuel and natural gas. The 135 MW power plant will be built on Lombok Island in Indonesia. Lombok Island is located east of Bali and is home to more than 3 million inhabitants.
