• Multiyear Agreement Encompasses the Daya Bay, Ling Ao and Ling Dong Nuclear Power Plants;
• Upgrades Will Increase Operational Flexibility and Efficiency;
• Project Built on 30-Year, Long-Term Relationship.

Daya Bay Nuclear Power Operations and Management Co, Ltd (DNMC) has signed a multiyear agreement (MYA) with GE’s Power Services business to provide services to the steam turbines, generators and auxiliary systems at its Daya Bay, Ling Ao and Ling Dong nuclear power plants. Targeting long-term stability and profitability, GE’s MYA will help generate reliable, sustainable electricity to power the Guangdong Province, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

"Operating for more than 20 years, the Daya Bay nuclear power base rigorously pursues the principles of ‘safety first, quality foremost and operational excellence,' and its leading operating performance has been well-recognized worldwide,” said Li Zhishen, deputy general manager of Daya Bay Nuclear Power Operation Management Co., Ltd. “The MYA we signed with GE an industry leader in power equipment development, manufacturing, repair and maintenance will help us steadily uplift equipment reliability and operating performance."

Over the past 30 years, DNMC and GE have collaborated on the Daya Bay nuclear power base, which was originally built with Alstom. Since the acquisition of Alstom’s power business in 2015, GE has expanded its total plant solutions portfolio, including its Fleet360* services platform, and has added significant new technology capabilities for nuclear power plants.

"We collaborate with our customers to tailor MYA solutions that are unique to their needs,” said Xu Xin, general manager of GE’s Power Services business in China. “Each MYA solution is customized to meet the unique needs of different power plants. Our goal is to bring long-term value to power plants, like the Daya Bay nuclear plant, with agreements focused on key metrics for the equipment such as availability, operational flexibility and efficiency.”

Comprised of the Daya Bay, Ling Ao and Ling Dong nuclear power plants, the Daya Bay nuclear power base is the first large commercial nuclear power base in mainland China. It was the first nuclear power plant built in the country, and it has been operating in a safe and stable manner for over 22 years. In 2016, the base supplied nearly 45 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to the grid, which can power the equivalent of 12 million homes.

“The signing of this MYA continues GE and Daya Bay’s cooperation and marks a new milestone in our long-lasting, win-win relationship,” said Xu Xin “GE is committed to doing its part to contribute to the economic and social development of Guangdong and Hong Kong.”

GE's MYA solution will give the DNMC the operational stability it needs to operate and maintain the plants in the most economic and efficient way possible. Under the 12-year agreement, GE will provide services including the supply of spare parts, engineering support, on-site service, repair and life extension for the steam turbines at the Daya Bay nuclear power base.

Nuclear power is a stable, cost-effective, highly efficient and cleaner form of energy. Comparing it with coal-fired power plants of the same scale, the six nuclear power units in the Daya Bay nuclear power base produce power that displaces the use of 14.57 million tons of coal, 35.9 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions, 340,000 tons of sulfur oxide emissions and 220,000 tons of nitrogen oxide emissions.

With MYAs, GE helps power plants reduce operating costs per unit kilowatt-hour, save fuel costs, ensure sustained operating performance and drive long-term stability and profitability. To date, GE has signed MYAs with 750 customers globally, which represents an installed capacity of 300 gigawatts.
