Innovative Interfaces, a leading provider of library automation software that empowers libraries globally, is proud to announce the Eastern Shore Regional Library (ESRL) in Maryland has selected Polaris as the Integrated Library System for a new ILS consortium. The newly-created Eastern Shore Library Consortium, made up of eight county library systems, confirms Polaris as the library solution of choice for 18 out of the 24 library systems in Maryland.
Three member libraries will migrate from competitor systems: SirsiDynix Symphony, TLC Library.Solution, and Evergreen. Four counties sharing an Innovative Millennium system will upgrade to Polaris, and one county will remain with Polaris.
ESRL (esrl.org) is a state-funded resource center that serves public libraries in the rural area of Maryland’s Eastern Shore. The center uses its resources to equalize the funding disparities between Maryland’s rural areas and the more affluent areas of the state. ESRL will take on the role of the administrative body for the newly created Eastern Shore Library Consortium. In an effort to streamline operations and increase resource sharing among libraries east of the Chesapeake Bay, ESRL selected Polaris as the ideal solution for consortium management of member libraries.
“ESRL operates as a consortium in almost every way for IT management, staff training, graphic design, consortial purchasing, and more except for managing a shared library management system, and now we’ll finally have one system for supporting our libraries,” said John Venditta, Administrator at ESRL. “We chose Polaris because it offers a modern interface and was built with consortium roles and responsibilities in mind. It’s a reliable, clean, easy-to-use solution, and we think it’s ahead of other ILS systems on the market.”
As part of the consortium capabilities in Polaris, each library in the system will have the opportunity to maintain a separate online branding experience. The PowerPAC discovery interface for library patrons is designed to easily achieve the highest level of personalization for each library in the consortium. The PowerPAC functionality played a key role in the consortium’s decision to select Polaris because it enables ESRL to help each library market themselves in their own way.
“Innovative is pleased to have Eastern Shore Regional Library (ESRL) join our premier client list as a new consortium,” said Innovative CEO Jim Tallman. “Their selection of Polaris will help member libraries share resources through a unified library management platform and expand their patron services in Maryland.”
The Eastern Shore Library Consortium is comprised of eight member library systems with 20 library locations spread across 4,414 square miles. They serve 243,000 borrowers with a total of 2.1 million resources.
