TIBCO Software Inc., a global leader in integration, API management, and analytics, today announced that Melbourne Airport has deployed TIBCO solutions to interconnect everything and augment intelligence, providing the organization with real-time information in support of unprecedented visibility into airport operational systems.
Previously challenged with a silo-based heterogenic system landscape where each element of information had resided in a different silo, Melbourne Airport set out to combine events and information held in different systems into an intuitive and friendly user interface to enhance operational awareness.
Melbourne Airport's new Situation Awareness Platform ties together distributed systems and provides operators, planners, managers, and external providers with real-time information to support collaborative decision-making, resource-planning, and identification of incidents which affect the customer journey and overall quality of airport service.
In addition to deploying TIBCO's API-based architecture and enterprise-ready ESB platform, Melbourne Airport has deployed TIBCO StreamBase™ streaming analytics and business rules engines via TIBCO ActiveMatrix BusinessWorks® and a REST interface provided by Nukon, a TIBCO partner.
Melbourne Airport has used TIBCO ActiveMatrix BusinessWorks® to adapt data from external systems, while TIBCO® Live Datamart provides a push-based real-time analytics solution that enables the airport's business users to analyse, anticipate, and alert on important business events in real time, and act on opportunities or threats as they occur. This data is provided as a live visual representation of the airport in a web application. Additionally, in the future, TIBCO Spotfire® will enable ad-hoc investigation to derive predictive models through the use of rich analytics.
"The system has established a strong foundation for the continuing integration of information and operational technologies allowing proactive, and in the future, predictive operations, in line with our vision of being a 'smart' airport," said Vic Raymond, ICT Strategy, Planning and Architecture Manager, Melbourne Airport.
The overall solution provides a real-time geospatial mash-up of data streams in a fully interactive map on any device. Data can be correlated in a single web-based, real-time dashboard for operational status while data mining enables Melbourne Airport to represent, trend, predict, and resource accurately and automatically in real time.
Nukon worked closely with Melbourne Airport to deliver the solution on time and within budget using an agile project delivery model, off-the-shelf software, and project accelerators. Nukon applied Melbourne Airport's vision, understood its business needs and connected various organizational entities to roadmap and implement the airport's digital journey.
"We now have the technology to have a visual overview of real-time operational activities which are occurring at the airport," said Mr. Raymond.
More than 34 million passengers travel through Melbourne Airport annually, with this number expected to increase to around 64 million by 2033.
