GOESR is the next generation of geosynchronous environmental satellites intended to provide atmospheric measurements for weather forecasting, severe storm tracking, and space weather monitoring.
The Extreme Ultraviolet and X-ray Irradiance Sensors (EXIS) Instrument was developed by the Laboratory for Atmospheric & Space Physics (LASP), University of Colorado, Boulder. The EXIS on the GOES-R series satellites are critical to understanding and monitoring solar irradiance in the upper atmosphere, that is, the power and effect of the sun's electromagnetic radiation per unit of area. EXIS will reside on the Sun-Pointing Platform (SPP) of the satellite, mounted in the yoke of the solar array.
