KPIT Technologies, a global technology company specializing in IT consulting and product engineering, today announced that it was nominated among 8 finalists from 157 international applicants for the prestigious 2016 UN-DESA (United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs) Grant on Energy, themed around 'Energy for Sustainable Transport.' KPIT was recognized with a 'Certificate of Appreciation' for its indigenous electric bus technology - Revolo - that enables clean urban mobility and was also invited to speak at the event.
The UN-DESA Energy Grant is a capacity building initiative launched and managed by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA). Titled "Powering the Future We Want", this program offers a grant to fund capacity development activities in energy for sustainable development.

Revolo is a versatile system, which is compatible across different bus formats. The components of the system include lithium ion batteries, electric motors, a power transmission unit and smart electronic control units. Revolo-enabled buses are also supported with features such Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), mobile phone app for journey planning and ticketing, Wi-fi infotainment etc., providing a superior ride experience that can help encourage faster adoption of public transport. KPIT is currently working with bus manufacturers and partners in India, South East Asia, Africa and South America to bring this technology to market.
KPIT’s first electric bus with this technology was flagged off by the Honourable Indian Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, in December 2015. Two such buses are currently operating at the Indian Parliament for its members to experience green and intelligent technology. KPIT won the "Promising Transport Innovation Award" at the International Transport Forum (ITF) 2016 Summit in Leipzig, Germany for its electric bus technology - Revolo. ITF is a part of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
