NBCUniversal has launched a nationwide challenge to reach 1 million acts of kindness this holiday season. Building on shared values of empathy and generosity, Share Kindness and One Act of Kindness are making a conscientious effort to bring more kindness to our everyday lives.
Since 2011, One Act of Kindness has encouraged people to spread kindness in a deliberate way, and to leave behind a card as a tangible way to encourage others to keep doing the same. Visitors can download and print their own cards, go about their day spreading kindness, and leave behind their cards for others to find. These good samaritans and the recipients of their “one acts” alike leave their stories on the website OneActofKindness.org. There, others can read how seemingly small gestures can make a big difference in someone’s day.
The founder of One Act of Kindness, Ricardo Ortizcazarin, is also founder of Cazarin Interactive, a digital marketing company in Minneapolis, and was spurred to create this initiative after feeling a need for more positivity in the world. “I started One Act of Kindness because I personally wanted to do something nice for others, especially strangers, without them thinking I wanted something in return. I am pleased to see that we have received testimonials from the USA, Canada, Ireland, and Australia, and I am thrilled to be partnering with NBCUniversal’s Share Kindness campaign. My hope is to promote kindness worldwide and just make people smile.”
Both campaigns, Share Kindness and One Act of Kindness, are tracking these acts on the way to the 1 million goal. NBC will also highlight notable stories of kindness from individuals, families, non-profits, and companies on their website and news outlets to inspire a spirit of generosity and humanity. “The NBC Family is committed to growing the good in our world.”
