Working on structures like GCC starts with a builder and partners who take pride in restoring aging buildings with meticulous attention to detail,” said Kevin Skinner, vice president and district manager for PCL’s Ottawa operations. “Currently this project has approximately 130 workers on site with an expected peak of well over 200. Trades people represent all facets of standard building construction as well as specialty trades for heritage work.”

PCL knows that what makes the process truly challenging is the fact that older structures rarely come with reliable building information, or as-built drawings. Consequently, the entire project team is obliged to “learn” the building together. The complexity of rebuilding this 100-year-old structure while maintaining existing heritage areas makes it both challenging and exciting.
