Windrun Wine, a Santa Barbara County-based producer, has earned more than 25 awards in the past two years for its Pinot and Chardonnay varietals.
Focused on producing wines from grapes grown in the prime vineyards of coastal California, Windrun selects the best grapes of each harvest and blends them to express the finest characteristics of each grape’s variety, emphasizing aromatics and balanced flavors. General manager Scott Burns notes, "The wines are brought to consumers at real world prices, affordable to all, their premium quality often easily comparable to wines selling for twice as much."
That affordability is what helped the winery achieve the highest honor in the famous Sta. Rita Hills AVA appellation at the New York competition, founded by Adam Levy, also known as The Alcohol Professor. Mr. Levy says that what makes a bottle of wine stand out to his panel of industry judges isn’t just about taste, but also about how much it costs. Levy commented,“We call this the real world compared to other competitions where it’s an amazing wine but at $55, no one is going to buy one for $55. We include price into the consideration by giving out medals.”
Similarly, medals and honors have been bestowed upon Windrun’s other vintages. "The judges at various competitions and magazines have quickly grasped the quality of our recent vintages. We're a relatively new winery and have only been entering competitions for two years. We are very gratified by the reaction to our wines," said national sales manager Susan Guerin.
Debuting in 2010, Windrun Wine (windrunwine.com) is a Santa Barbara County-based vintner. The wines are nationally distributed and carried in better restaurants and hotels, fine wine and liquor shops, and select grocery stores. While Windrun Wine does not have a public tasting room, private tastings can be arranged by appointment.
