The scope of supply includes auxiliary equipment, spares, tools and services for the supervision of installation and commissioning.

The plant will be constructed by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), the largest government-owned engineering and manufacturing company of its kind in India.

The 18 MW base-load plant will be operated by the national Comoros Energy Dept. and provide baseload power to the public grid. It will replace three existing, outdated power stations in order to increase the overall efficiency and capacity of power generation in the small island nation.

Both the MAN 18V28/32S and the MAN 7L27/38S are small bore engines with a cylinder bore of 28 and 27 cm. They will be manufactured in Aurangabad, MAN’s manufacturing hub in India, which specializes in the production of small bore engines.

“This project further strengthens our local footprint and our position as a provider of comprehensive solutions for power plants in India. We take our guaranteed and proven world class MAN product quality standards and transpose them directly into the local manufacturing processes. In addition, the design and engineering of our power plant solutions is also handled 100% in India. Thanks to the depth of locally added value involved in projects like this, we can react very flexibly to the needs of our local customers and comply with the “Make in India” campaign launched by the Indian Government”, said Emmanuel Ferdinand, Managing Director of MAN Diesel & Turbo India.

“With the reduction of crude oil prices across the world, the power plant market in India is slowly coming back to life. MAN Diesel & Turbo India (mandieselturbo.com) has adopted a successful strategy involving close cooperations with experienced Indian companies that are specialized in the engineering, procurement and construction of power plants (EPC) in Africa, MENA & the Asia Pacific region”, adds Sanjay Kandlikar, Regional Vice President at MAN Diesel & Turbo India.

The engines will be powered by heavy fuel oil (HFO), whilst operating in full compliance with the regulations for NOx emissions of the Indian government, which are among the most stringent norms worldwide. Delivery of the aggregates is scheduled for late 2016 or early 2017 and commissioning of the power plant is expected to take place in mid-2017.
