DSM Biomedical, a global leader in biomedical materials science and regenerative medicine, today announced a partnership with Vention Medical, a global integrated solutions partner, to provide customers who develop and manufacture coated medical devices with a single-source offering. The partnership offers customers the option to integrate the development, testing and application of DSM’s ComfortCoat® coating into the catheter manufacturing process, eliminating the need to transfer finished products to another supplier for development and coating application services.
Medical device manufacturers continue to improve clinical outcomes while being pressured, like never before, to further reduce costs. This is best achieved by designing innovative products for manufacturing, reducing time to market, and leveraging an integrated and consolidated supply chain. DSM’s innovative ComfortCoat coating can help improve performance and patient comfort when applied to medical devices, such as catheters. ComfortCoat coating helps device navigation and mitigates risks of acute trauma to the patient. The collaboration with Vention Medical enables device manufacturers to seamlessly integrate the coating design and production into their devices optimizing the design and manufacturing efficiency.

DSM’s materials scientists and applications engineers (dsm.com) will now start to work alongside Vention Medical’s device designers and operations personnel to produce coated catheters. This partnership now enables devices being designed, assembled, coated, and packaged under one single quality system and under one roof. In doing so, work in process is kept to a minimum, supply chain is streamlined, and quality control is optimized. This collaboration offers device manufacturers an unmatched level of service and expertise from raw materials science and technology innovation to component and device manufacturing, to operations management. This collective and integrated supply chain, on a global manufacturing and sourcing platform, enables DSM and Vention Medical the capability of bringing significant efficiencies to medical device companies.
