Aston Science Park, Birmingham, United Kingdom, 2007/03/14 - The search is on for the West Midlands’ most enterprising town, city or place to represent the region in the Enterprising Britain 2007 competition.

The competition – now in its third year – is run by the Department of Trade and Industry to promote enterprise in the UK.
Advantage West Midlands (advantagewm.co.uk) is co-ordinating the regional heat of the competition, the winner of which will receive support to develop their bid for the national finals.
Entrants must show how they are enterprise champions, where jobs have been created and communities brought together for the benefit of businesses and local people.
Last year, Burton followed in the footsteps of Shrewsbury in scooping the West Midlands Capital of Enterprise Award and went on to represent the region in the national finals.
Norman Price OBE, Chairman of the West Midlands Enterprise Board, said: “Our region, as the home of the Industrial Revolution, has a rich history of entrepreneurialism.
“Enterprise is one of the key challenges our region faces in the future as, quite simply, there are not enough new businesses starting up in the West Midlands and too many low-value added companies among the existing business base.
“Our previous winners, Shrewsbury and Burton, have done a fantastic job of showcasing excellence in our region and both will be tough acts to follow.
“But we are looking local authorities, strategic partnerships and business groups to get together and promote their town, city or area as the West Midlands Capital of Enterprise.
“Advantage West Midlands and the Enterprise Board are committed to fostering and encouraging business start up and growth – this is a real opportunity for us to help showcase enterprise in our region to the world.”
Deadline for entries is April 13 and the winner will be announced at the end of May.
