Writer, director and actor, Damian Chapa (Brando Unauthorized, Polanski Unauthorized) is premiering his latest feature film, Father Rupert Mayer at the Crest Westwood Theatre in Los Angeles on Thursday, May 28th. The film is written, directed and executive produced by Chapa, executive produced by Nicola Mayerl and produced by Gloria Kisel.
The film chronicles the true-life story of Father Rupert Mayer, head of the Bavarian Catholic Church during World War II. Mayer, an outspoken critic of the war, preached against the inhumane treatment of Jews and others by the Nazi party and himself became an enemy of the German Government. Mayer was imprisoned multiple times and ultimately sentenced to the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp. This is the story of one man’s courage, compassion and relentless fight for human rights.
The film stars, Oliver Gruber in the role of Father Rupert Mayer. Nicola Mayerl is Donna von Bayern, an attorney who tirelessly fights for Father Mayer, often risking her own life by going up against the Nazis. Michael Mendl plays a courageous prisoner who befriends Father Mayer in the concentration camp. Daryl Hannah is Joanna Sebastian, an American who convinces von Bayern to help a talented Jewish artist escape from Germany. Stacy Keach is a German Colonel and father of von Bayern to whom she pleads to get Father Mayer released. Damian Chapa plays the Army Officer sent by the United States to ultimately free Father Mayer.
Filmed at Bavarian Studios in Munich, produced by Munich International Pictures and distributed by New York International Pictures, the film will have a limited run at the Crest Westwood Theater from Saturday, May 30th Friday, June 5th. DVD distribution is scheduled for August 2015 through Waxwork Distribution.
