We started 2 years ago with the idea that casual wine lovers like us must have a forum to exchange their views with their peers about the wines they liked or didn’t like without being judged by experts. Winescapes set out to be a social community around wine encompassing the related human activities which go better with wine events, get-togethers, trips, family functions, college reunions or even home alone drinking. As we got deeper into it, it evolved into other things that casual drinkers needed to make our lives better. Sharing and discovering new wines, finding better wines to buy when in a store, asking for other’s opinions about wine situations, keeping track of friends and our own wine activities, better wine deals. Importantly, we wanted to keep it simple and relatable for lay consumers to enjoy their wines with friends wherever they may be.
More technology got developed along the way but the end goal still remains the same - making life easy and connected for a casual wine lover. Finding wines faster and easier using wine name, label image, wine criteria using SmartChat and GUI; being able to share widely with friends instantly across social media using Share; knowing what wines they were drinking as soon as they did via Notifications, keeping track of one’s own wine and people activities via Profile; finding the best deals and merchants in one’s geography and online via Discover Offers and Merchant Slider; checking simple definitions of wine jargon from Glossary; posting questions to entire WS community for suggestions in Idea Exchange• and more such features on the anvil.
However the journey has many miles to go yet to unfold the full panorama of Winescapes but even the journey of 1000 miles is easier with the company of friends and peers. After all, what’s life without good friends and good wine?
