Michigan marketing firm Five Sparrows, LLC, today announced it will offer free Website Impact Reports (WIRs) to businesses that want to check their sites for Google’s new mobile friendliness ranking factor prior to the April 21, implementation date announced last month by Google.
“Our WIR report will tell you, for free, if your site is mobile-friendly in the eyes of Google,” said Lauren Hobson, President of Five Sparrows. “It will also check for SEO errors, HTML code errors, meta data details, technical files, and other key metrics that give you real-time data on how your website and online efforts are working for your business.”
Late last month, Google announced that as of April 21, 2015, it will begin using “mobile-friendliness” as a ranking signal for websites. In the announcement, Google said the change will affect “searches in all languages worldwide, and will have a significant impact in our search results.”
Until now, having a mobile-friendly site was a competitive advantage. But starting April 21, mobile-friendly sites will actually be given preference in Google, meaning non-mobile-friendly sites will be pushed even further down in the search results.
“As Google watchers, we can tell you that Google doesn’t typically make announcements about algorithm updates using terms like ‘significant impact’, and they don’t normally divulge exact dates for algorithm changes, either,” said Hobson. As Search Engine Watch puts it,“Google is providing a timeline to encourage those who haven’t already adapted their websites [...] to begin making this transition.”
