Lehrmitt Design Studios announces the availability of a new-to-the-market technique for using 3D printing solutions to add an artist’s touch to assembly line chocolate candy. This design technique will allow large manufacturers and small chocolatiers to offer a wider variety of intricate, artistic surfaces on chocolate candies in a faster, more cost-effective way.

“Our design team has been applying leading technologies in product design, manufacturing and packaging for over two decades,” says owner, Bob Lehrmitt. “We’ve been quick to explore new applications for 3D printing. Making chocolate molds from 3D-printed designs was a logical next step for us.” The Lehrmitt design team has created an entire collection of intricate chocolates with artisan designs to show as samples. “3D-printed chocolate designs look like they come from molds that were painstakingly created by an artisan's hand,” says Lehrmitt. “We aren’t chocolate makers. What we do is design 3D-printed positives to make molds so chocolate makers can create unlimited designs without having to carve the molds by hand.”

With this new design technique, chocolate molds are made from the positives printed on a 3D printer. Using 3D printing technology, prototypes can also be made and new designs can be tested with a minimal amount of time and investment. This allows for flexibility in adding new designs to a product line and for creating chocolates for specific events, themes and other types of customized orders.

Additionally, small batches of candy can cost-effectively be made for chocolate manufacturers with smaller production runs.
