NewswireTODAY - /newswire/ - Basingstoke, Hants, United Kingdom, 2015/02/05 - A cookbook, published in aid of the Princes Trust Million Makers Challenge, has been selected for special recognition by the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards - HCR.co.uk.

The book - a first for Hampshire - was produced by a team of volunteers from Basingstoke-based firm HCR - and raised more than £16,000.

“We wanted to create something to celebrate Hampshire’s diverse and rich local produce, and we were lucky enough to gain the support of top chefs and cooks like Simon Rogan, Delia Smith, Rick Stein, Paul Hollywood and Marcus Wareing,” said HCR’s Simon Hood.

“Blessed with such a talented team of contributors, I’m not surprised the book has been recognised with a Special Award of the Jury in the International Gourmand Cookbook Awards. I am delighted for everyone involved.”

The Prince’s Trust Million Makers Challenge is a national competition calling on employees and university students to come together and raise £1 million to help make a difference to the lives of young people across the country.

“We couldn’t have asked for a tastier selection to help us celebrate all that is good about Hampshire’s food - and the best part is that all of the book’s profits will be fed back into The Prince’s Trust to help disadvantaged young people in the county and across the UK,” added Simon. “And now we have an award to recognise the efforts of all those who played a part in this innovative project.”

The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards was founded in 1995 by Edouard Cointreau. Each year, they honour the best food and wine books printed or digital, as well as food television.

The Hampshire Cookbook, and its team of HCR creators, will receive a special mention at the ‘Best in the World’ event in Yantai - the Wine capital of China - on 8 June 2015.
