The purpose of the partnership is to improve the capabilities of the GFSU CyberLab launched by the university in August 2014.
GFSU CyberLab will conduct research, development, training, and services in vulnerability testing and analysis, cyber incident monitoring, and computer forensics. CyberLab will create a unique platform in India where academia, industry, and governmental stakeholders can come together to collaborate in addressing emerging cyber threats.
“Codenomicon brings in internationally recognized capabilities for vulnerability discovery and cyber incident monitoring,” says Dr. J.M. Vyas, Director General at GFSU. “We’re excited to first adopt, and then extend on these capabilities to provide new cyber security solutions for India.”
Codenomicon Defensics is a world-leading vulnerability testing platform focusing on unknown, zero-day vulnerabilities. Defensics has a global customer base with governmental organizations and industries using the platform to secure their network-based systems. Heartbleed, a critical OpenSSL vulnerability discovered in April 2014, was credited to Defensics and Codenomicon engineers. Codenomicon AbuseSA is an automated platform for collecting, processing, and prioritizing threat intelligence, which enables users to quickly identify and notify infected organizations. With AbuseSA, users can create cyber threat situation awareness that easily scales from the organizational level to national and global levels. AbuseSA is the solution of choice for multiple international CERTs, national SoCs, and large enterprises.
“Critical infrastructures, and especially industrial control systems, are targets for cyber attacks and we have several Smart City initiatives ongoing in India. Therefore, it’s important to develop new security measures for this evolving landscape,” adds Dr. M.S. Dahiya, Director - IFS. “Defensics and AbuseSA provide a solid foundation for understanding the vulnerabilities and threat environment. This will enable us to research and tailor solutions for local requirements. We also expect AbuseSA to help us in the development of investigative and forensics techniques.”
“GFSU is a pioneer and visionary institute in bringing cyber capabilities under the same roof with physical forensic sciences,” says Sami Petäjäsoja, Vice President, APAC at Codenomicon. “We’ve already first examples of cyber attacks with kinetic impact, so this is a great initiative. We at Codenomicon are honored to be part of this project and eager to support GFSU with both our products and cyber security expertise.”
