As Jet Set Tourism continues to grow, Ryan O’Rourke has been selected as their new Training Manager. The former French professor will be responsible for advising new hires, managing customer-service, and assisting senior management. This role is pertinent to the global travel agency and O’Rourke’s experience and enthusiasm make him a great asset.
"We are excited to have Ryan join us and bring his talent in French language as well as educator. We are growing at such a fast pace that Ryan’s educator experience will benefit Jet Set Tourism by forming training programs for the future staff members that we have onboarding. As France is one of the key travel destinations for our clientele, we have a great need for French language speakers to interact with the suppliers as well as create the developing website for the French speaker,” remarked Company President, Jose Alipio Ramalho Pereira.
Born and raised in Kentucky, O’Rourke began taking French in high school. Upon attending the University of Kentucky, it was French, and ultimately Linguistics, that grabbed his attention. Upon attaining his BA in 2008, he traveled abroad teaching a summer language program in the South of France. Teaching and traveling became instant passions.
Once O’Rourke returned to the states, he began working on a Masters in French, at the University of Kentucky, teaching throughout. His years teaching there are some of his favorites and are certainly what led him to pursue a PhD at Duke University in 2010.
While attending Duke, O’Rourke continued to teach and study French. Then he was offered the opportunity to work for Broadreach, which runs summer programs in various subjects internationally. Thereafter, he spent two summers leading adventure immersion programs in Guadeloupe, a French island in the Caribbean.
In the fall of 2013, O’Rourke decided that the 'PhD life' was ungratifying and that it was time to pursue other avenues. Over the past year he served a short stent as a flight attendant and returned to the food service industry as a server and then manager. As of October, he met with Mark Steward, Director at Jet Set Tourism, was appointed Training Manager, and immediately began to add value to the company.
