Learning content specialist Video Arts Video Arts has created 22 new online courses covering essential management and workplace behaviours.

The new courses create short, sharp learning bites and build on the recently-released Video Arts Essentials videos, which feature Robert Webb, Helen Baxendale and others. They are designed to help employees reflect on, and change, the way they interact with their teams and colleagues every day.

In each of the interactive online courses, learners watch three or four short videos that demonstrate the learning points using the humorous Video Arts ‘wrong way, right way’ approach. They are then invited to reflect on how they’ve been affected by similar situations before going on to be tested on their understanding of the concepts presented.

Clive Shepherd, who acted as learning consultant and curator on the courses, said: “Because the characters and the situations in these video courses are recognisable, viewers become emotionally engaged in the story. As a result they have a much better chance of remembering, and applying, what they’ve learned.”

Martin Addison, CEO of Video Arts, added: “We set out to show that big ideas can be absorbed in short learning. Today’s L&D professionals are under greater pressure to develop their employees’ management and interpersonal skills without taking them off the job for too long. Organisations are finding that this kind of engaging, bite-sized approach to the big issues around soft skills is a great way to reach more people with more content.”

Video Arts (videoarts.com) launched 70 Essentials videos in September. These are already being used by clients including Hackney Council, University College Birmingham and African Development Bank. The 11 new Management Essentials and 11 new Workplace Essentials e-learning courses are now available online in responsive design, multi-device formats as well as offline via an app for iOS and Android devices.

The new e-learning courses cover issues such as: leadership; team development; difficult conversations; motivation; one-to-one support; recruiting; reviews and feedback; absenteeism; communication; dealing with stress; finance and budgets; managing projects and processes; self management; meetings and negotiation. The courses have been designed for the way that e-learning is evolving, with the rise of multiple devices and informal learning. Each lasts around 30 minutes and follows a structure of look, think, practise and remember.

Background notes: Video Arts is the world’s leading provider of ready-made and bespoke video-based learning. Since it was founded in 1972, the company has won more than 200 awards for its learning content.
