Bala Cynwyd, PA, United States, 2014/10/15 - Micro Oscillator, Inc. (MOI) announces the industry’s lowest operating current and voltage Inductive Proximity Sensor Products utilizing MOI patent pending Sensor Integrated Circuit for Consumer, Industrial, and Battery Operated Applications.
The new line of Low Power Inductive Proximity Sensor Products utilizes MOI patent pending Sensor Integrated Circuit (IC) for Consumer, Industrial, and Battery Operated Applications. Two Evaluation Modules containing the Sensor IC are available. One of these is directly compatible with Arduino type computers for Portable Robotics, Motor Control, Automation and Switching.
At the heart of the technology is the Sensor IC which operates at low voltages (1.5V to 3.5V) and the industry’s lowest operating currents (1µA to 4 µA) making it ideal for portable/battery operated applications. It can sense either ferrous or non-ferrous metal objects to “zero speed”. When metal is detected, the output creates a digital signal output that can be used to stop-start, count, change direction of something in motion or just switch something off-on to indicate the presence of detected metal.
The Micro Oscillator, Inc. (MOI) Low Current & Micro Current Non Magnetic Inductive Proximity Sensor Evaluation Boards are very easy to use, and are tuned for non-ferrous metals. They can easily detect low permeability (non-iron) metals such as aluminum, copper, and may more. Non-ferrous metals like aluminum are widely available, inexpensive, very thin, and easy to apply to most surfaces and can be detected by this Evaluation Board containing the Sensor IC and inductor coil. If desired, the Evaluation Boards can be retuned to detect high permeability (iron) metals instead. This sensor is not to be confused with magnetic sensors (Hall Effect), which obviously need magnets to operate.

The low current version operates between a supply voltage range of 3v to 5.5v and draws less than 10mA from your power supply or computer. It includes an LED indicator light, two diagonal mounting holes for stability, and a standard open collector output. The LED indicator light operates independently of the computer and is on when metal is sensed and the digital output level is low. The open collector output can connect directly to one of the digital I/O pins of Arduino type boards, the same way an external push button switch would be connected, and it’s as easy as that! This version is ideal for robotics, hobbyists, and industrial applications where higher voltages are not available or needed.
The micro current version operates between a supply voltage of 2v to 3.6v and draws less than 10uA from your power supply. It does not include an LED indicator light. The digital output level is low when no metal is sensed. The low current, voltage, and small size make this ideal for battery powered applications. Also, it can be surface mounted to a larger/mother type shield or board. This lends itself well to portable & remote applications. Do not use this version at 5v.
