This extremely important milestone was achieved right in time for the forthcoming 2014 summer peak demand in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. With block 6, adding another 635 MWnet, the total output of the Qurayyah CCPP Mega Project increases to its designed overall electrical capacity of 3,813 MWnet at reference site conditions (50°C, 70 % humidity, 40°C seawater). At ISO conditions, the power plant output would even reach 4,752 MWnet, ranking Qurayyah CCPP as one of the biggest power plants worldwide.
Lahmeyer (lahmeyer.de) has been supporting the national energy company Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) in the role of Project Management Consultant for the Qurayyah Combined Cycle Power Plant project already since mid of 2008. The Lahmeyer experts commenced with review and approval of final design documents, carried out site supervision of the open cycle gas turbine plant for each of the subsequent stages of extension to combined cycle technology with a total of six power plant blocks. Each power block consists of 3 gas turbines (GE 7FA), 3 corresponding heat recovery steam generators (triple pressure, reheat), and one steam turbine (GE D11). Until 2015, the Lahmeyer engineers will continue working for the mega project in Saudi Arabia, assisted by a local partner.
