Southbank, Victoria, Australia, 2014/07/21 - Stronger opening season milk prices, burgeoning demand from China and growing farmer confidence about the industry’s future are the backdrop to the Australian Dairy Farm Investment Forum scheduled to take place on Monday, 15 September in Melbourne.

“The Forum will provide an opportunity for all parties interested in the Australian dairy industry to gain a deeper understanding of the operating environment, outlook and innovations shaping the industry’s future,” said John McKillop, Chair of the Australian Dairy Farm Investment Forum Organising Committee and Dairy Australia Director.
“It will be an opportunity to share information, improve knowledge and explore the range of capital raising options available, as Australian dairy farmers need to see the breadth of investment models that can bring capital into their businesses to make them more profitable.
“The Forum will also provide attentive investors with an understanding of the workings of our industry,” said Mr McKillop.
Over the past 12 months, the industry - both Dairy Australia and individual industry participants has received an increasing number of enquiries seeking information regarding potential investment in Australian dairy.
“We have different production types, diverse geographical regions and a complex regulatory and operating environment so it’s time to come together and properly discuss these things more directly with the people who want to inject capital into the sector,” said Mr McKillop.
“Australian dairy production is already a great source of focus for local and many overseas customers, suppliers and investors. At the same time many of the farms producing the milk are keen to ramp up production and get dollars behind the business to achieve greater volumes and become more profitable,” he added.
It is in direct response to this growing level of interest that Dairy Australia decided to host an inaugural Dairy Farm Investment Forum at ZINC in Federation Square, Melbourne.
“We are very pleased to announce that the Australian Minister for Trade and Investment, the Hon. Andrew Robb MP, has agreed to open the event,” said Dairy Australia Manager of Strategic Initiatives, Paula Fitzgerald.
“People are reading about the Asian dairy boom and the 10 percent plus growth we are seeing in our exports to China, about the prospects for greater free trade and the optimism and confidence that is beginning to really characterise farmers’ outlook.
“The Forum will bring people together across the industry, whether they come from the boardroom perspective or straight from the paddock and really flesh out what the dairy investment landscape is for a growth and profitable future,” said Ms Fitzgerald.
