New heavy alternative/crossover act Sumer releases their highly anticipated debut A side single Pinch Cut, on Tuesday 5th of August via new grassroots label Wild Heart Records, with a one off full live set at The Lexington. The single will be available as a limited run CD alongside a digital download.
Pinch Cut, engineered and produced by Sean Douglas (The Franklys, The Graveltones, Django Django) and mastered by Ade Emsley (Iron Maiden), is a groove laden 4 minute ride into the bands unique take on modern metal, echoing not only contemporary greats such as Karnivool and Gojira but also with a firm rooting back into the glory days of grunge with a nod of the head to the likes of Soundgarden and Smashing Pumpkins. Despite these influences the track still retains a distinctly British feel thanks to their unconventional approach to recording which unlike many of their contemporaries, keeps it all live, all analogue and put down on vintage equipment. Their full debut album “The Animal You Are” is set to be released in October this year.
Having recently broken into the music scene with a string of critically acclaimed shows, Sumer are also eliciting a fevered response from national press with upcoming full page editorial features in Prog (Metal Hammer’s sister publication) and Terrorizer all after recent performances were caught by the editors of both magazines.
In 2012 Sumer won the 'Hard Rock Rising UK 2012' event by unanimous vote from the industry judges, including Starsailor frontman, James Walsh and The Guillemots frontman, Fyfe Dangerfield, as well as senior members of Absolute Radio and Live Nation. With James Walsh eternalizing their performance by saying;
“This is music to take you out of the space you’re in and transport you away entirely … no other band in this competition has actually taken me out of the room”
There have also been rave reviews recently from heavy metal press in the UK, with Fox James of Metalmouth.net stating;
“Sumer bring prog rock kicking and screaming into the 21st century with frankly dazzling aplomb …
The essence of Sumer is also the incredible stage presence and the delivery of their triple guitar attack which surges, explodes and winds down in waves leaving the senses in a euphoric state of jubilant chaos.”
With Sumer on the up and up we would very much like to invite you to their single launch night at The Lexington on Tuesday 5th August. Support for the night will include a diverse selection of up and coming London artists in the form of Will Miles, Jackknife Seizure and Vodun.
