Membrane technology or membrane separation technology is a physical method of removing impurities from material mixtures, utilizing membranes as filters. Membrane technology is being preferred over the conventional water treatment methods such as distillation, extraction and flocculation as it is a highly energy efficient and effective purification alternative. However, to ensure continuous and efficient operation, membranes require application of membrane chemicals like antiscalants, cleaners and pre-treatment chemicals into the feed water. These chemicals ensure prevention of membrane surfaces from scalants, colloidal impurities, microbes or any other foulants present in the feed water.

According to a recently published report by TechSci Research,“Global Membrane Chemicals Market Forecast & Opportunities, 2019”, the global membrane chemicals market is expected to witness a CAGR of around 13% during 2013-19, thereby doubling its market revenue over the same period. Leading global players operating in membrane chemicals industry include Veolia Water Solutions and Technologies, Ecolab Inc., GE Water and Process Technologies, BWA Water Additives and Kemira Oyj.

Asia-Pacific holds the largest share of global membrane chemicals market. The primary market driver is the region’s increasing desalination capacity. Further, the demand for membranes for purification of process water in pharmaceutical, food & beverage, electronics industries is also witnessing a continuing increase. High water purity required in these sectors has promoted the use of RO membranes over other conventional filtration and chemical methods. All these end user industries are witnessing healthy growth rates in Asia-Pacific, which is augmenting the requirement for membrane chemicals in the region. In North America and Europe, water supplied through municipal corporations is generally membrane treated, which acts as an important application area for membrane chemicals. In North America, the demand for membrane chemicals is generated from the use of membrane technology for municipal water treatment, desalination as well as shale gas & oil production.

“Increasing adoption of desalination technologies in countries like China, United States, Australia and the Middle East has boosted use of RO membranes in recent years. Desalinated water is being used for drinking as well as household supply in the Middle East, whereas in North America, desalination is carried out primarily for industrial applications like shale gas and power plants”, said Mr. Karan Chechi, Research Director with TechSci Research a research based global management consulting firm. “With the growth of RO based desalination market, coupled with various new desalination projects planned in these regions, membrane chemicals market is set to benefit significantly over the course of next five years”, he further added.

“Global Membrane Chemicals Market Forecast & Opportunities, 2019” has evaluated the future growth potential of global membrane chemicals market and provides statistics and information on market structure and industry behavior trends. The report includes membrane chemicals market projections and demand forecasting. The report is intended to provide cutting-edge market intelligence and help decision makers to take sound investment evaluation. Besides, the report also identifies and analyzes the emerging trends along with essential drivers, challenges and opportunities in the membrane chemicals market, globally.
