• Combination Programmer and Thermostat Keeps People Comfortable, Helps Save Energy;
• npower Offering Nest Thermostat to Millions of Customers.
The Nest Thermostat programs itself, automatically turns down the heat when you’re away, and can be controlled from your mobile. Nest is also announcing its first U.K. energy partnership. npower, a leading U.K. energy company, will offer the Nest Thermostat to millions of customers, providing them with the ability to save energy as part of their energy plans.
“With the U.K. Office of Gas and Electricity Markets saying that U.K. residents spend on average about £1,342 per year on electricity¹, and heating making up over 60 percent of U.K energy bills, it’s the perfect time to bring the Nest Learning Thermostat to the U.K.” said Lionel Paillet, general manager for Europe, Nest. “Nest Learning Thermostat customers in the U.S. experience savings of approximately 20 percent on average off their heating and cooling bill and we’re looking forward to helping customers in the U.K. save as well.”
The Nest Learning Thermostat can turn the boiler on and off according to the temperature in your home. It learns your preferred temperatures and adjusts based on your personal schedule. And with its built-in sensors, the Nest Thermostat knows when the house is empty and automatically turns down the temperature, helping to save energy.
Nest Learning Thermostat Features
The Nest Learning Thermostat for the U.K. has the same features as the award-winning U.S. and Canadian version, including:
Auto-Schedule Nest programs itself in a few days, creating a personalized schedule based on the temperature changes you make, and continually adapts to your changing life.
Auto-Away After you’ve left the house, built-in activity sensors notice that you’ve gone and Nest automatically adjusts the temperature to avoid heating an empty home.
Remote Control Control your home’s temperature from your laptop, mobile or tablet.
The Nest Leaf A green leaf appears on the display when you turn Nest to a temperature that’s energy efficient, guiding you to energy savings.
Energy History Energy History shows you how often, and for how long, your heating system was on. Customers will also receive an Energy Report summarizing the last month’s heating usage versus the month before, and why it went up or down.
True Radiant With True Radiant, the Nest Thermostat reduces temperature swings and starts heating early so you get the temperature you want when you want it, whether you have underfloor radiant system or a radiator.
Works with Nest Protect Families who have added both a Nest Learning Thermostat and Nest Protect: Smoke + Carbon Monoxide alarm to their Nest Account will benefit from these products working together. If Nest Protect’s carbon monoxide alarm goes off, your Nest thermostat automatically turns off your gas or oil boiler, a possible source of poisonous carbon monoxide leaks. In addition, the Nest Protect activity sensors improve the Auto-Away feature of your Nest thermostat.
New features for the U.K. include:
A thermostat and a programmer all in one The Nest Thermostat replaces your programmer, giving you precise control of your heating from one place.
Heat Link It turns your boiler on and off when you change the temperature on your Nest Thermostat.
The Stand for Nest Learning Thermostat Accessory for those who don’t have thermostat cables available in the wall, want to replace wireless thermostats, or just want to put in a better location, the Stand for the Nest Learning Thermostat is available to place Nest in a better location.
Nest Energy Services
Nest offers a variety of services to energy companies to better manage energy loads, keep customers comfortable, and help them save energy. In the U.K., Nest’s first partner is npower, with more to come. npower is offering the Nest Learning Thermostat to its six million customers with a three-year fixed tariff energy bundle.
“We’re committed to helping our customers manage their energy use and Nest offers a great solution,” said Simon Stacey, managing director of energy services for npower. “The Nest Learning Thermostat is the excellent combination of design and technology and we think our customers will love the learning features of Nest, as well as being able to control their heating remotely.”
