Founded in 2012, Read Russia is a new initiative - based in Moscow, New York, and London - established to celebrate Russian literature and Russian book culture. Through innovative programs, projects and events supporting the English-language translation and publication of Russian works, Read Russia provides international audiences with fresh opportunities to engage - in person, on screen, and online - with Russia's literary leaders and heritage.
“With the UK-Russia Year of Culture upon us, we are currently at a very exciting time,” says Farzana Baduel, MD of Curzon PR. “Literature is an essential part of cultural diplomacy and of encouraging cross-cultural awareness. Here at Curzon PR we are proud to be involved with this exciting opportunity to further the strong literary reputation of Russia”.
Vladimir Grigoriev, Deputy Head of the Russian Federal Agency for Press and Mass Communications says, ‘Read Russia celebrates the wonderfully diverse cultural heritage of both of our countries. Through partnerships like these, we can encourage long-term cooperation and understanding of our centuries-old societies. Literature offers an unparalleled way to share our cultural heritage ’.
Read Russia will have a stand at the London Book Fair from 8-10 April and the Read Russia Literary Festival will be held in locations around London from 5-11 April. Events will be held around the topics of Russian literature, translation, Russia’s e-book market and various other subjects.
Key figures from the Russian political and literary world will be attending as speakers and panellists on topics relating to Russia, Russian literature, translation and the status of contemporary literature.
