Olney, MD, United States, 2005/09/01 - Most organizations use several spokespeople, yet their goal is to deliver a consistent message. Following are some easy to implement tips to ensure all of your spokespeople talk from the same page.

How many spokespeople does your organization have? How many officials from your organization are tasked with 'spreading the word,' and talking with different constituents about your mission, the services and support you provide, or new programs that you're implementing?
The more spokespeople you have - the more chance there is that your message is getting garbled. And probably all of your spokespeople are outstanding - but are they delivering the same message, and consistently highlighting the same top priorities?
Providing what we call a 'Speaker's Kit' can help.
Create a 'kit' that includes your top level messaging, even the top level presentation if that's approprite, and be sure each spokesperson has a copy and is comfortable using it. This kit enables an organization to have confidence that even if several people are serving as spokespersons on an important topic, they are all using the same language, the same messaging, the same presentation, and have all the tools they need to effectively deliver the organization's message. The Speaker's Kit is often built around a PowerPoint presentation. The kit will include a copy of the PowerPoint presentation on disk, and in hard copy - and in transparencies if desired. The kit should also include the talking points, a copy of a full speech, and background information. This kit can then be duplicated for as many people as needed to make this presentation, ensuring that everyone is using the same materials, and same messaging. It also enables spokespeople a higher level of comfort and confidence, as they have everything they need in one binder to ensure an effective and successful presentation.
Simple? Very. Effective? Absolutely! Try it - your speakers will thank you!
