Do you know the difference in heart attack and cardiac arrest? Do you know to help someone that is choking? Would you like to learn the life-saving skills of CPR, or learn how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)?
Free CPR classes in the Atlanta area will be available during February, which has been designated as American Heart Month, at 7-8 locations. These classes are taught by certified American Heart Association instructors, the community CPR classes are complete AHA Family & Friends CPR courses. These courses will be complimentary only during American Heart Month. You’ll learn adult Hands-Only CPR with manikin practice, how to use an AED, and instruction in child & infant CPR with breaths, and relief from choking for all ages. The course is recommended for age 12 and above. These classes are non-certification training, but will teach you the skills needed to save the life of a loved one or co-worker.
Over 383,000 people per year suffer cardiac arrest in the U.S., and over 350,000 of them die, mainly because no bystanders perform CPR within the first 3 minutes, and no AED is used within the first 6 minutes. EMS does an awesome job, but they are usually 6-9 minutes away from the cardiac arrest victim when they collapse, and every minute matters when there is no oxygen going to your brain.
In addition to free CPR training, for American Heart Month, we’ll also provide tips on “Heart-Healthy eating”, reducing risk factors for heart attack, and suggestions for improved cardiovascular health.
Here’s the 2014 schedule for this non-certification training.

According to American Heart Association, immediate, effective CPR can double or even triple a cardiac arrest victim’s chance of survival. Also, over 80 percent of cardiac emergencies occur at home, so you’ll be more likely to help a family member than a stranger.
These free classes are provided as a public service by Newnan CPR. All classes are open to the public (age 12 and up is recommended). No advance registration is necessary. Location: Atlanta, GA area.
