Carlos Becerra, attorney at Tredway Lumsdaine & Doyle LLP (TLD), has been elected deputy co-president of the Southern California chapter of the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA). Becerra, officially installed in his new position at the start of the month, will play an integral role in helping the organization’s local chapter raise awareness of its mission and increase membership levels.
“It is a privilege as a Hispanic attorney to help lead an organization that promotes the advancement of other Hispanics in the legal community,” Becerra said. “For more than thirty years, the HNBA has acted as a force for positive change and today, there are more Hispanic attorneys than before, providing greater diversity within this industry.”
As deputy co-president of the HNBA Southern California, Becerra will assist the regional president in vetting judicial candidates who seek the HNBA’s endorsement, network with in-house attorneys from other firms and provide general public service through HNBA events in Southern California. Becerra also will help further the mission of the HNBA, which includes promoting the recruitment and retention of Hispanic law school students and providing them financial assistance as well as serving as a national voice for Hispanics in the legal community.
At TLD, Becerra primarily focuses on complex business, employment and intellectual property litigation matters and has successfully represented high-profile clients in both state and federal court cases. Becerra is a graduate of the University of California, San Diego, and received his law degree from University of California, Hastings College of the Law. He previously served as director of Freedom Is Not Free, a non-partisan, nonprofit organization that aids wounded troops and their families. He also worked in business development for various start-up companies.
