To counter the negative press received by the City of Toronto with the recent Mayor Ford drama, Across The Board, a collaborative group of creative musicians based in Toronto, decided to write and produce a song celebrating "T Dot" for it's "big city dreams" and vibrant lifestyle. The "small town girl in big city" theme creates a lyrical story of the history of Toronto's indie music roots on Queen Street and the culture of street cars, films stars and race cars that attract visitors year round.
Across The Board draws from its members backgrounds in rock, reggae, country and acapella to deliver a clean, strong harmonic blend of driving rhythms, acoustic guitars, old school electric bass and smooth vocals. Sibling members Jacqueline Auguste and Thomas Smith, originally from the small prairie town of Camrose, Alberta; and Andy Ramjattan, a born and bread Toronto native, collectively create catchy melodies to produce the unique indie rock sound Across The Board is becoming known for.
"One of our unique qualities as a group is our ability to collaborate across the country and even internationally via the internet and cellular system", says Jacqueline Auguste, ATB's vocalist and acoustic guitarist. "Although we're based in Toronto, we travel a lot and often continue to record and mix remotely." Having recently returned from a music video shoot in Zanzibar, Africa, the group has become accustomed to using technology to their creative advantage.
In addition to the newest release,"Toronto Listen Up", ATB is in the process of completing "Black Box", a cover of New Zealander Stan Walker's 2009 hit with an African flare. "We enlisted locals from a Zanzibari drum circle to help us record a unique Indie-rock African drum version of this pop-rock down-under classic", says Andy Ramjattan, the group's drummer and African percussion aficionado. "We look forward to releasing 'Black Box' in the new year.
Other recently releases include "Madiba", a tribute song to Nelson Mandela; and "Runnin" a country tune--available on iTunes.
