Phoenix, AZ, United States, 2013/12/02 - We are pleased to announce that the 13th Annual Phoenix Improv Festival (PIF) is scheduled for April 17-19. This festival, which celebrates and promotes the art of improvisational theater, will be held at The Herberger Theatre - PhoenixImprovFestival.com.
This year's festival will focus on a variety of Phoenix improvisational troupes, as well as showcasing selected troupes from across the country. Each performance is different using various improvisational structures which may include improvised plays, musicals and genre-based performances. All shows are based on audience suggestion, and are made up on the spot. We will be featuring over 20 groups total mixing local and national talent. A complete list of performing troupes and workshop information will be available on the festival website in the coming weeks.
"We're excited in our thirteenth year to be building a stronger national network of theatres and putting Phoenix in the ranks among national performers," says Executive Producer Bill Binder.
The Phoenix Improv Festival debuted in 2002, and in its inaugural year featured three local Phoenix troupes. Previous festivals featured troupes from around the country, including performers from Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Austin, Salt Lake City, Miami and Detroit, as well as troupes from all over the state of Arizona. Past performers have included Jack McBrayer (30 Rock), Craig Cackowski (Community, Drunk History), Stephnie Weir (Mad TV), Matthew Lillard (Scream, Scooby-Doo), Tj Jagodowski and Peter Grosz (Sonic Commercials), Dan Bakkedahl (Legit, The Heat), Mark Sutton and Joe Bill (Chicago's Annoyance Theater & The Second City).
The Phoenix Improv Festival (phoeniximprovfestival.com) is produced by CareFree Write Productions (CFWP), a 501©3 non-profit organization. CFWP also operates The Torch Theatre, a longform improv theater and training center located at 4721 N. Central Ave. in Phoenix. CFWP serves as a support network for developing local artists, an educational resource for the community, and an integral part of Phoenix's growing cultural movement.
