The new cutter incorporates a multi-tool head so both laser and blade cutters can be used on a single machine, and is designed to increase speed and efficiency during production of a wide range of digitally printed display materials.

The company prints onto a wide variety of formats including canvas, mesh and vinyl as well as paper and card, so they wanted a machine that is able to cope with all digital print substrates. The Mastercut was developed and manufactured by Blackman and White, the UK’s only manufacturer of automated cutting machines. Incorporating a multi-functional tool head reduces the floor space required for cutting and eliminates the need for a separate machine for each function.

Service Graphics had previously finished large format prints by hand which is both labour intensive and time consuming. The new high speed cutter is computer controlled which means it is not only faster but is far more accurate than hand cutting. Many of their display graphics are printed onto vinyl or polyester textiles, and as the laser simultaneously seals the edges of these materials, large banners can be completed without hemming or sewing, further speeding up production time.

John Ichikawa, Blackman and White’s technical sales manager commented,“We were delighted to win this contract with one of the UK’s leading digital printing companies. The Mastercut is the first automated laser cutter Service Graphics have purchased, and we supplied it with a 3.2 x 8 meter flatbed so it can easily cope with large format materials. Turnaround time can be critical in this highly competitive industry, and this new machine will not only increase Service Graphics’ efficiency and profitability during manufacture of digitally printed materials but will produce a far higher quality end product.”
