LexisNexis® Legal & Professional, a leading provider of content and technology solutions, today announced two new developments supporting the need for more access to legal eBooks for law students and professors: an agreement with Follett Higher Education Group, Inc. and launch of LexisNexis® Digital Library Professor Review Copies. These developments are examples of LexisNexis capitalizing on the dramatic shift in eBook preference on campus with six in 10 college students preferring digital books over print titles when reading textbooks for class and three quarters of college student tablet owners indicating they use their tablet daily for school.*

Adoption of eBooks from LexisNexis by law students is on the rise in part due to the availability of titles through major online eBook retailers. LexisNexis has expanded this network of retailers once again through a new agreement with Follett bookstores. Follett is the leading provider of retail and wholesale bookstore services and course materials in North America, and the agreement enables them to offer students codes to legal eBooks from LexisNexis in both brick-and-mortar and online store environments. This means students can pay for a LexisNexis® eBook in a Follett-run bookstore and receive a passcode for downloading the book online at the LexisNexis Store or they can buy codes directly online via efollett.com and use them to download related legal eBooks from LexisNexis.

“Today’s law students were born digital and eBooks are simply ‘books’ to them, and that is why our strategy is to meet and exceed their expectations in the media format they want,” said Susan Slisz, vice president at LexisNexis. “Law professors are also embracing eBooks and increasingly need a fast and reliable way to find and review eBook titles for possible inclusion in their class curriculum.”

In the transformation of the law school library, innovators like Albany Law School, University of Kentucky College of Law and the University of Dayton School of Law have already implemented or signed up for LexisNexis Digital Library offering the virtual library experience with eBooks for students to checkout to their mobile device of choice. Now, LexisNexis has launched LexisNexis® Digital Library Professor Review Copies.

Built on the LexisNexis Digital Library platform created in conjunction with leading eBook distributor OverDrive® and launched last year, the new solution enables professor-only access to the core collection of LexisNexis law school textbooks for review as they consider texts for their classes.

LexisNexis Digital Library offers a single location to order titles from a diversity of sources, the ability to supervise lending of all electronic content and central management a digital legal library helping reduce costs associated with storing, filing and distributing titles in traditional print format. In addition to reading with an e-reader, users may also choose in-web-browser reading with no additional e-reader software required. Using LexisNexis Digital Library, legal professionals can check out and share eBook titles from the largest collection of more than 1,900 authoritative legal eBooks that are compatible with all major mobile devices and desktop platforms.

In addition to eBooks from LexisNexis, customers using LexisNexis Digital Library also have access to more than 800,000 titles from other publishers via the OverDrive Marketplace. This is a critical capability because it enables users to aggregate all of their content in one platform instead of having different access points for titles from different sources.
