Twin Cities Community Hospital is proud to announce Tara Taylor, RN as an honoree of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, a peer-elected award program the hospital participates in each quarter. A ceremony was recently held at the hospital as a part of the DAISY Award presentation.

Taylor, a Paso Robles native, lives with her husband and 2 children in Templeton and after completing her ADN a the Cuesta College for nursing, has served as a registered nurse at Twin Cities Community Hospital for over 3 years in the Medical/Surgical department. Chief Nursing Officer Carol Howland said,“Tara is known at the hospital by her peers and patients for her compassion, and tireless work ethic. She has a passion for making a difference in the lives of the patients and families she works with.”

Additionally, Howland said Twin Cities Community Hospital has received patient comment cards thanking Taylor for her tender, loving, care, and time spent with family members facing difficult circumstances.
The DAISY Award ceremony, held before colleagues, physicians, patients, and visitors, honored Taylor with the "Extraordinary Nurse" certificate, which reads: "In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are, and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people." Taylor also received a DAISY Award pin, a hand-carved serpentine stone sculpture, entitled "A Healer's Touch,” a large celebratory banner that will hang in her unit for three months, and will be featured on the spotlight page of the DAISY Foundation’s website.

The DAISY (an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Foundation was started in Glen Allen, CA by family members of J. Patrick Barnes, who died from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little-known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. As a way of thanking Barnes’s nurses, his family established the award program to recognize “the super-human efforts nurses everywhere perform every day.”
The DAISY Award is one initiative of the not-for-profit DAISY Foundation whose overall goal is to help fight diseases of the immune system. Additionally, DAISY offers J. Patrick Barnes Grants for Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice Projects and provides assistance to ITP support groups. More information is available on their website DAISYfoundation.org.
