Phillips DiPisa, an executive search firm serving healthcare providers, managed care organizations and life sciences firms, today announced that it has placed Kurt A. Barwis, CHE, CPA, as President and Chief Executive Officer. His appointment is effective mid-August 2006.
Bristol Hospital, established in 1921, is the predominant provider of healthcare services to the 60,000 residents of the city of Bristol, Connecticut, and surrounding communities. With approximately 1,300 employees and a 236-member medical staff, the Hospital provides a full range of inpatient services including medical/surgical, critical care, and obstetrics, as well as emergency and ambulatory services.
Mr. Barwis joins Bristol Hospital with more than twenty years of management and leadership experience in community hospital, management consulting and entrepreneurial business environments. Kurt earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Business Administration Degree from LaSalle University. He is a certified public accountant and is a certified healthcare executive with the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Mr. Barwis will join Bristol Hospital from his most recent position as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of St. Mary’s Hospital of St. Mary’s County, Leonardtown, Maryland, where his primary responsibilities include the day-to-day leadership of all hospital, hospice and urgent care center operations, and administrative and facility support services. Prior to joining St. Mary’s Hospital, Kurt was System Vice President of Managed Care and Business Development at Union Hospital in Elkton, Maryland, and Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Renaissance Technology, Inc. in Newtown, Pennsylvania.
