Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International British Columbia chapter (HSMAI BC) today announced Mr. Steve Halliday as the recipient of its annual Hospitality Lifetime Achievement Award. A world-renowned hotelier, Mr. Halliday was selected from among key British Columbia industry influencers for his work defining standards for excellence in hospitality management, as well as his lasting contributions to making Vancouver, Canada’s premier luxury hotel capital.
HSMAI BC will present the Lifetime Achievement Award at its annual Holiday Networking event from 4:30 to 7:30 pm. November 27, 2013, at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. Event amenities include hors d'oeuvres, cash bar, door prizes and a fundraising raffle. Among the prizes are two (2) Delta Airlines tickets to anywhere in North America courtesy of Orbitz, a Hotwire.com gift certificate, dining certificates from Sequoia Restaurant Group and Grain Tasting Bar, as well as hotel stays from Travelocity and Delta Burnaby Hotel.

Inaugural Award Celebrates Hospitality Trailblazer
Prior to his retirement this past August as Managing Director of the Rosewood Hotel Georgia, Mr. Halliday spent 26 years in senior positions within Pan Pacific Hotels Group, most notably as Vice President and General Manager of Pan Pacific Vancouver for more than 10 years, first opening the hotel in 1986 for the World's Fair. To celebrate Mr. Halliday’s contributions to the industry, HSMAI BC will make a donation in his name to the BC Hospitality Foundation.
“It is a great privilege to culminate our first year as a chapter celebrating Mr. Halliday, who has been instrumental to raising the standards of service and innovation in Vancouver for all of us in the hospitality industry”, said Robyn Wosk-Peter, founding board member and President of HSMAI BC’s Board. “Given Mr.Halliday’s passion and commitment to the hospitality industry, it seemed fitting to select the BC Hospitality Foundation as our Charity of the Year.”
The inaugural award has been established to celebrate individuals who have made significant contributions to British Columbia’s tourism and hospitality industry in an effort to advance the province as a center for business growth, industry innovation and unparalleled service.
Using input from members of industry, HSMAI BC assembled a list of nominees. The Selection Committee, comprised of HSMAI BC board members, set out to research and discuss each candidate’s career and contributions to the industry.
