Brussels, Belgium, 2007/02/04 - In the framework of a global project to increase its production capacity, APM (Grupo Imsa, Monterrey, Mexico) has implemented BetaPlanner – the AIS SteelPlanner rolling mill scheduler - to manage the scheduling of the hot strip mill.

BetaPlanner was selected over other systems for its performance, site references, and its ability to model, in a very short period of time, the process rules and business objectives.
BetaPlanner focuses on the optimization of the detailed mill schedule, automatically building an optimal sequence for the mill and reheating furnaces on the basis of the available material in front of the mill. During the project, AIS consultants also helped APM to re-engineer the HSM scheduling rules.
The completion of the project as well as the BetaPlanner modelling features will open new possibilities for improvement in the scheduling management of the hot strip mill while taking into account the specifics of the order book and the plant’s constraints.
“With this project, we achieved a better knowledge of the scheduling process of the HSM which allow us to optimize the utilization of the mill, minimizing the risk of violations that can harm the equipment, as well as, to improve the quality and level of service to downstream lines and final customer. We selected AIS because, we recognize their great reputation and strong experience as a supplier for this very specialized tool”, says Mr. José Luis Valdés, Planning and Customer Service Manager.
The implementation started in July 2006 and finished in early January 2007, providing a BetaPlanner configuration with all the scheduling rules reengineered during the project.
