It extends the company’s plastic planking product portfolio and is a “sister product” to Tatra’s Click & Fix range of snap together planking, Sometimes referred to as ‘plastic lumber’ or ‘plastic timber’, the product fulfils the need for a robust, long-lasting and environmentally friendly material to replace timber, and is becoming the material of choice in the UK owing to its high quality and durability. For example, it’s used as plastic landscaping material for pathways and ground reinforcement to fishing platforms, plus tough, durable garden decking that's maintenance free. It’s also been used to build cricket side screens.
The tough, impact-absorbing and light weight planking is suitable for an extremely wide range of uses, says TatraMD Karl Hesmondhalgh, including: decking, fences and borders, barriers, guardways, windshields, garden seats, tables and benches and on a smaller scale garden planters. Being made of HDPE, it saves timber and the need for timber renewal caused by rotting and degradation, making it an environmentally friendly product.
Unlike timber, it doesn’t fade, rot, discolour, harbour grime and germs and can be hosed clean. If required, an anti-microbial additive can be added at the production stage for extra protection. It’s strong a plank can withstand the weight of a 4x4 - yet lightweight so it’s easy to transport and manoeuvre, making assembly a “one man job”, unlike heavier wooden planking.
From the same “family” of products comes the 90x90mm square hollow post and weather proof cap for use with planking used as walls, screens or similar. Posts can be made in matching or contrasting colours for high visibility applications.
