Xocolat (pronounced “shuck-o-laht”) recently opened its doors at 816 11th Ave. SW in downtown Calgary.
The restaurant specializes in haute cuisine from Mexico City’s elegant high-end restaurant district fare that is difficult to find in the US outside of select and renowned Chicago and New York Mexican restaurants. Moreover, Xocolat is the first restaurant of its kind in Canada.
Recognizing that many are unfamiliar with the succulent dishes that characterize high-end Mexico City dining and that “Mexican food” is often exclusively associated with fast food in Canada, Xocolat owners engaged William Joseph to oversee the development and execution of strategic communications that will effectively introduce its concept to diners.
William Joseph developed a campaign concept entitled “Redefining Mexican”, conducted a professional photo shoot of the restaurant’s interiors, dishes and patrons and produced several promotional campaign pieces, including postcards, transit shelter advertising, and targeted e-mail blasts.
“This restaurant has fantastic ambience and food, which provided the basis for a cool campaign that captures and communicates the unique and pleasurable experience one finds here,” stated Ryan Townend William Joseph CEO. “Where else in the city can you dine on a 100-year old monastery door from Puebla, Mexico?”
The restaurant is open for lunch Monday through Friday, for dinner from Monday through Saturday and features live music on Saturday evenings. Reservations are recommended but not necessary.
