Wednesday Night Regular is Barker’s book of poetry inspired by the dancers of Teasers Men’s Club. Like the dancers the club is known for, the verse teases and slowly reveals itself to readers. Romantic and sensual, the poems bring readers a dizzying taste of night club life.

Describing dancers “like a pale cello between my legs” with “unmapped bodies” and “clockwork hips,” Barker presents poem after poem with sensory surprises from his regular Wednesday nights spent at the dance club. The book is punctuated with evocative sketches by one of the club’s dancers. Recently, Writer’s Digest’s Robert Lee Brewer interviewed Barker after one of his poems made the Top 25 nationally in the 2013 Poem-a-Day Challenge. Barker, based in Hillsborough, has written poetry that has appeared in publications such as Dead Mule School of Southern Literature, Three Line Poetry, and the anthology Point Mass.

The launch celebration of Wednesday Night Regular takes place at 7PM on Wednesday, November 6th at Teasers (156 Ramseur Street in Durham) followed by an evening show of topless dancers. The reading is free to attend and is open to all over the age of 21. Beverages available for purchase.
