Winter Park, FL, United States, 2013/10/10 - New Sammamish High School football uniforms were developed in honor of local sports hero Mark TeVelde and will be unveiled at the school's October 18 Homecoming game - Saiphs.com.
Central Florida-based Saiphs Superior Athletic Wear one of the nation’s leading providers of athletic clothing and apparel is pleased to announce that the company has developed commemorative football uniforms for Sammamish High School in Bellevue, Washington. The jerseys which will be unveiled at the school’s October 18th Homecoming game feature a patch to honor school sports hero, Mark TeVelde, the quarterback who led the 1986 team to victory in a historic win over powerhouse rival Juanita High School. TeVelde passed away in 1996 after a long and difficult struggle with mental illness.
The commemorative uniforms were designed by Saiphs founder and CEO Scott Weeden a Sammamish alum and close friend of TeVelde and Roger Shoup a star captain of the school’s 1986 football team in collaboration with fellow Sammamish classmate Mike Fauser, who has been a driving force behind the Homecoming ceremony and other fundraising efforts in Mark’s memory. Players from the 1986 team will also be honored at the October 18th game and authentic jerseys and commemorative t-shirts are available for purchase online. Saiphs will donate all profits received from total sales of Sammamish Totem apparel to the Mark TeVelde Fund for the Mental Health Ministry at University Presbyterian Church in Bellevue, which provides outreach and support for those affected by mental illness.
“As an alum of Sammamish, I was ecstatic to develop the football team’s new uniforms and as a close friend of Mark, I was even more eager to create something that could honor his memory,” said Weeden. “He was a tough player and a bright spirit who was taken from us too soon. I’m thrilled that Sammamish and Saiphs have the opportunity to work together on a project and event that will recognize his outstanding achievements and bring important awareness to mental illness issues.”
“Mark is and always will be a legend at Sammamish,” said Pat McCarthy, the athletic director for the school. “In addition to leading our 1986 squad to victory over the two-time state champions Juanita and breaking our rival’s 32-game winning streak, Mark was an outstanding student and, most importantly, person.”
In addition to making donations by purchasing Saiphs’s Sammamish apparel, contributions to the Mark TeVelde Fund for the Mental Health Ministry can be made directly . For more information about Saiphs or to purchase apparel, please visit them on line.
