During the annual Asian Business Association (ABA) Dinner, held at the Grange St Paul’s Hotel on the evening of 10 September 2013, Mayor of London Boris Johnson was presented with a vintage Bollywood poster by founder of Copal Art and evening co-sponsor, Ajay Seth. As 2013 marks the 100 Years of Bollywood centenary, the poster was from iconic 1960s film Mughal-e-Azam.
The ABA dinner, part of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), also featured a raffle for charity partner Oxfam, to which Copal Art donated an LP of Mughal-e-Azam’s celebrated soundtrack. Each guest also received a special gift of a vintage vinyl Bollywood record from Copal’s extensive collection of rare and collectible Bollywood memorabilia.

During his speech, Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: “The strong cinematic links between London and India are illustrative of an historic and warm relationship that continues to flourish. I was thrilled to visit Mumbai last year to meet some of Bollywood’s leading movers and shakers and I am pleased to help celebrate 100 years of this iconic cultural art form.”
The evening also included a special display of vintage LP records and an artwork by the late legendary Indian painter MF Husain from the collection of Copal Art.
Some 400 guests attended, including leading figures from the worlds of business, media, politics and society.

About Mughal-e-Azam
Mughal-e-Azam marks one of the milestones in Indian cinematic history. When it was first released in 1960, it smashed all box office records. In 2004, it became the first film in celluloid history to be successful coloured and re-released. A recent poll celebrating 100 years of Indian cinema in the UK has voted Mughal-e-Azam as the greatest Bollywood film of all time. The soundtrack of Mughal-e-Azam is also a timeless classic. Music director Naushad Ali composed 20 songs for the film, although only 10 were included in the film, all of which are included on the official LP. It also holds the honour of being the only Bollywood soundtrack to feature two songs rendered by the Hindustani classical music maestro Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan. The original recording was a mono single track, with no separate tracks for the voice and the instruments. Yet they have stood the test of time.
